Pluractionality of Events in Macuxi: A Morpho-Syntactic and Semantic Analysis

This paper discusses how pluractionality is expressed in Macuxi (Cariban), a South American Indigenous language spoken Brazil, Guyana and Venezuela. Cross-linguistically, the multiplicity of an action can be by means specialized pluractional morphemes affixed on verbs, via adverbs, or reduplication. Previous work claimed that iterative suffix -pîtî indicates actions, whereas verbal reduplication mentioned but scarcely described, associated with interpretation multiple events. Based data from context-based elicitation, we show impacted Aktionsart (activity semelfactive which denote unbounded, atelic events, have higher tendency to reduplicated) reduplicated verbs are often intensity interpretation. On other hand, functions as marker encodes events predictable Lasersohnian analysis.
